Yes, I kind of meet my goals because I wen there, I learned a little bit about architecture and I see how they work.

What are the most important things you’ve learned?

I've learned how to use the cad program, I still need to improved my skill on it.

If you can, describe a memorable moment or experience. What challenges did you overcome?

The first time I started using the CAD program I was amaze by it's potential. It was easy for me to get addicted to it, and willing to learned everything in it. That day was just a great day. I didn't encounter much challenges. My only challenge was figuring out in what category a magazine belong. And some of the magazines doesn't have contact info and I need to keep a data of it.To deal with these challenges I type the magazine name on the Internet and find all the info about them. Problem solve

What advice would you give a new intern at this site? What will you miss about your internship?

There's nothing to worry about, the people are very amiable. Just do your tasks, have fun with the work. If you have any questions feel free to ask anybody, they will be glad to respond you. It's a great internship, just have fun.

15. What advice would you give to high school-aged interns (such as myself) getting ready for college and then the real world?

When I was in eleven grade it was really frustrating, I had to pick a major, decided
what college I want to go to. The advice I want to give is stay motivated, don't feel the pressure. Don't feel like it's the end of the world if you pick a major that you can't handle. You can always change major. Don't let yourself worried to much. Relax a little bit.

Daily Post

Less expectations less disappointements. My plan turn upside down, the opposite happened. Instead of ordering magazines for thirdy minutes I ordered them for two hours and a half. It wasn't bad at all but I wanted to save more time for my project. The reason for that changed is because as I was ordering things became easier so I kept on going. I kind of regret not having time to really focus on my project, but I'll try to manage the situation. My mentor went out to a meeting today and I stayed with Adam and Amy.

When my time was over, Amy signed my paper. Normally I leave after they signed my paper but today was different. I stayed and we were having some awesome conversation. We joke, laugh, talk about serious things like projects for the summer and how things work in college. The conversation was so funny and interesting that it kept captive. We talk and laugh about many different things, for example Adam and Amy experience in high school and college. Today was fun, I left my internship with some unforgetable hilarious stories.

Today was ok, I went there I ordered catalogues for two hours. I spend the last hour working on my project "Phone Booth". I didn't really accomplished anything in the project today. But I got something out of that failure, I found another great Idea for my project. My failure helped me comprehend the project and light up my mind on what to do. I expecting complete this project in three weeks or less. I want that project to be a wonderful memory from internship. I'm trying anything I can to upgrate this project. When I'm done I'll print it cover it with plastic. Perhaps I can use it in the last project for this class. Tomorrow I going to wrk for two hours and a half on the project. I'll order the catalogues for thirty minutes. I dodn't have to much ordering to do.

Daily Post, April 17

Today I just watched videos about the program. I was creating my own house it appeared that something is wrong with it, whenever I tried to put a tree next to it, the tree is always ten thousand time taller than the house. Whe I'm done the house I'll try to print it, and post it in my blog. In the middle of my hours my mentor bade me to look for a mexican project her boss had worked on long ago. Unfortunately I didn't found it, I look in all the files it wasn't there. She told me it's OK her boss probably has it. After that I went and watched the videos. I have a little idea on how my project is going to look like(phone booth). The more I know about the program the better my project is going to be, so I'm trying to pick up as much information I can to start my project.

Daily Post, April 16

Today I past most of my time learning about the CAD program or Shetchup. I just watch videos on many different things the program is able to do and how to do them. It was fun, I'm amaze to see what this program can accomplish. From what I see in this program it's going to take me a while befor I master it. I'm willing to master it no matter what. My mentor Sheryl finally give me my project. The project is to design a comfortable office phone booth in the CAD progran. For now I don't know what to do but with time ideas will come. Today there is ping pong pizza party in my internship, they invited me but I wasn't able to. The purpose of this party is celebrate the birthday of one of the worker or architect. I don't really know the person.

I also had a good five minutes conversation with my mentor. From that conversation I learned that she play the violin very well, and her dad is a pianist. He wrote a couple of piano books, I forgot to ask her what are the names. It was a good talk, we talk about a couple of interesting things. Today was just great, great, great.

It's just great what this program contain, and what you can realize with it. My mentor invite me in bolling game they going to have. They going to play against the other Specht Harpman firm that is located in Austin Texas. Today they gave me the team shirt, it's brown and have read writing. Daily Post, April 14

Incredible, incredible, incredible is the Cad program. Today I started learning the Cad program, I didn't even work for thirty minutes. The cad program is like a 3D program. It can take a drawing on a paper and bring it to live. You can design anything you want then you make it look like it's there, it's real. My mentor didn't really sat down and teach it to me, she just send me to a wevsite where they teach how things work. It was kind of easy to learned most of the strategy and ways of doing things. I was so in to the program I had no idea when my time to leave came. The most incredible thing about the Cad program is that you maninipulate the picture however you want, you can look at it in all the different angles. It's just very great to learn this program. Today I created my first home, not to fancy but appropriate. I can't wait to learn more about this program. My mentor told me that she si going to give me a project to do in this program. I can't wait, today was just great.

Midpoint Reflection Questions

How has the internship been the same as and/or different than your expectations?

Whe I first went to my internship I thought it was going to be the worse nightmare of my life. I didn't know the people, I was only doing one thing and it was boring. Now everything seem normal, I'm more comfortable I'm doing different work. It's more fun now. The internship is a nightmare that I'm very passionate about, I don't want to wake up from this dream anytime soon.

What is similar and different about the culture of the school environment versus the workplace environment? What new skills have you learned that apply to the workplace?

The similarities between the school and the workplace environment is that they both teach you about life. They both can be fun and difficult. The differences between the is that the workplace environment has more freedom. In the workplace there's nobody yelling at you, it's quiet, calm everybody is so responssible and have passion with that they are doing. Sometime we joke around eat enjoy life by doing what you love. Also nobody is watching you every seconds and tell you what to do, or send you to tyhe principal office. The best thing is that they DON'T GIVE HOMEWORK. In school you have teachers yelling at you, pushing to do something you no interest in, homework almost everyday, it's crazy.

What kind of relationship do you have with your mentor and co-workers? How have you grown as a result of interacting with professional adults?

My relation with my mentor is not all perfect but it's getting better everyday. Before If i have a question I try to figured it out by myself. Now it's easy to just ask her annything I want, even if it's about her personal life. Almost everyday she ask me if I want luch, whatever I want she would buy it from us. Sometime she doesn't even ask me she just bought me luch. They always congradulate me for the worked that I have done. I interact easily with them, I hav e three mentors I ask anyone of them whatever I want. We talk laugh, joke around and other things. I even interact with other architects in the building, they tell me about architecture and how to get in a good school. They also tell me some program that would be good to learn while I'm here. It' all good there.

What challenges at the internship have you faced that you have overcome and how did you overcome them?

The challenged that I faced was that sometime when I see a catalogue and it's hard to figured out what catagory it belong too. So what I do is, I read the catalogue sometime they design that I can't figured out what they are. So I just read, read things I can't understand, if when I read I still don't get it I used the internet. they give picture of the products so it helps me I found out where does it belong.

What challenges have you faced in school as a result of the altered schedule and how are you handling them?

The main challenge I face because of internship is homwork challenge. Sometime I finish internship king of late or the train was very late. Whe get home at like six almost seven sometime 7:30, I have to do my homework. By the time I eat or cook something to consume, in a glance it's already eight something. By the time I finished my homework it's already 12:00 sometime 1:00 or 2:00. The annoying part is that I have to wake up early because of college now or SAT prep. So I don't get enough sleep. I have every morning.

What goals are you working to accomplish during the remainder of the internship?
My goal is to learn the CAD program and other program related to my field. The CAD program is program where you can design anything you want. Somebody inform me that it's a little bit challenging to learn, but once you know it's a great thing. I also want to learn anything I don't know but suppose to know.

What new things have you learned about New York City?

One knew thing I learned is that there's a lot of human trafic in Banhattan

Daily Post, April 7

My internship advisor Mr. Jon was in my internship today. He talks to my mentor Ms.Sheryl about how I've doing and I showed him the library and things that I'm working on. The only thing my mentor said that I don't really do, I'm positive you all can guess it" I don't really asked questions". The reason I don't ask question is because once she told me how to do something I learned it quick. And I keep doing the same thing for a very long time so I don't really have the need to ask questions. Also I could ask questions that is not related to my task but I always want to finish the work first. I don't want to be asking questions while I have lots of work to do, that's pretty much why I don't ask questions

All I worked on today was Keep a data of the new magazines and put them in their correct category. I was suprised of how catalogs they sent me today, about 10-20. It doesn't sound much but each of these catalogs have 5-4 magazines or other things that I have to look over, keep data ect....... Basically I passed three hours keeping data opening packages, put n=magazines in their places also reading.

The last time I talk about me going to the "Library" with my mentor Mr. Andrew didn't think it sound exciting . I'm sure library doesn't sound fun for a lot of people but when you are working everyday in the same place, once you know you finally going to see out side, it doesn' matter where you going. Library doesn't sound exciting to me either in the other hand away from work sound good. So Yeah to the library. By the way tomorrow I'm going to the library.

Over all my mentor say good things about me. She said she's planning on next week to give me my project. I'm not sure how is going to work but I know that, I'll be working on a project that they're working on. It's king of like I'm practicing how to design a room in a real project that would probably be used in the project. Today I write a lot Because there was A lot to say. Thank you Mr. Andrew.

Unfortunately today I didn't have the chance to go visit the project. But the day wasn't totally bad, sure I was doing the same thing but I got through it. We didn't go because my mentor had a meeting, after the meeting she was frustrated because sh just found that she has to make some changes in her project. It was ok. Before I left she told that next is going to be fun, she'll try to achieve that. The place we'll probably go visit is an incredible library, I didn't catch the name they told me it's awesome there. Third Week Assignment

Describe one significant activity or project that you have completed or are working on currently?

One significant project that I'm working on is to rearrange the library in order including throwing out old magazines and refresh it with new one. There are many different categories in the library for example ( Concrete, Specialties, Windows & Doors, Wood, Furnishings, Finishes, etc). Some of the magazines are not in their place or they are old, so I have to put them in their place and make sure they are new. When the magazines are old ( before 2006) I take the company name and contact info down. That's my routine job

Monday, March 10, 2008

If there's one thing i really like it's the trip, I wish I could do it everyday.
